Tenting at Caledonia State Park

We are officially halfway done our Appalachian Trail Thru Hike. We can now start counting down the miles.

Shortcake, B.B.King, Black Bear

It's all down hill from here.

B.B.King joined us today. She cranked out the miles the last two days to catch us and took us up on our offer to join us at the campsite. We all set out this morning slack packing. Batman drove ahead and hiked south to meet us like he normally does. We only had 12 miles planned for today. With the King setting the pace, an easy trail, and motivation to reach the halfway mark we were done quite early.

It seems weird to say I hiked twelve miles today and don't even feel like I hiked. The three of us are in decent shape and continue to get stronger with each trail challenge we face.

What seemed daunting in the beginning is easy peasy now. It is an awesome feeling to watch the personal and physical growth among my hiking friends and myself. You never now what you can do until you try.

Today's conversation we talked about not letting fear hold you back from reaching your goals. Sure it's easy to say, "Oh I can't do that I am afraid of this or that." But once you start telling that fear voice to take a back seat a whole new world opens up. I am still afraid of heights and have other issues, as Shortcake calls them but I work on it daily. I can now walk to the edge of a cliff and not feel like I will faint or have a panic attack. I can't stay there long but I can now do it. And, oh the sights I have enjoyed.

It's okay to have fear, fear is important. Just don't let it hold you back. Some say it's good to know your limits. I say know them, then forget them.

Happy Hiking.
