Creepy Guy Freaks Us Out

Day 6: March 29, 2017

Mile 35.7 to 47.9

8:57am to 5:15pm

Stealth camped alone, tented

We didn't get much sleep last night. As we were setting up camp this guy comes wandering through the area. He did not come from a trail and he didn't leave by a trail. I said hi as he passed by. He looked at me but made no acknowledgment of my greeting. He was dressed in a t-shirt and town shorts. What was so odd was the fact we were miles from any road or civilization and the way he disappeared was down over the ridge through the forest. He just vanished. It creeped us out. I slept with one eye open and both ears on high alert.

If that wasn't enough at 5:30am I heard a loud crashing sound and snapping of branches. I woke up Shortcake so we could be ready for whatever was outside our tent. We didn't hear or see anything after that but sleep was over.

This is my view most of the time. That's Shortcake with her trail famous cupcake hot. I let her lead most of the time. Her pace is gentle and keeps me from pounding my feet. They have not hurt me once on the trail so far. No blisters, no pain, just normal tiredness after a long day of hiking.

It was a hot day. No complaints from me. I don't like the cold. I did fry my arms though. I guess I should have kept the sunscreen.

Yak, a fellow hiker asked me how I got the trailname Black Bear "With all that white hair" he laughed. Nice guy. It was funny and we all enjoyed the humor.

Happy Hiking
